Biography

Pst. Umanuwa D. Caleb is the lead pastor of FlagUpJesus Global Ministry in Port Harcourt, and the pioneer and steward of its work. Rivers State born, he is a pastor, a philanthropist, an author and a songwriter.

The ministry he leads

FlagUpJesus Global Ministry is non-denominational and global in intent. Its vision is stated plainly: reach out to the poor with the good news of hope, and solve their material challenges at the same time.

That second half is the part that shapes the week. The ministry runs free healthcare, and distributes food packages and clothing — carried into villages and city suburbs rather than waiting for people to find their way to a Sunday service. Hope is not preached at people there and then left with them; it arrives with something in its hands.

How the first book arrived

The 5 Dimensions of Grace began with an assignment rather than an ambition. God gave him the responsibility of starting a discipleship class for those brought to him to nurture and raise, and the first subject he chose to teach was grace.

As he reflected on it, the revelation came in a dream. He was instructed to take a note, and saw five dimensions of grace, each one accompanied by its own scripture from the book of Genesis. All five turned out to live inside a single verse — Genesis 1:28 — in the exact order God had spoken them: be fruitful, multiply, replenish, subdue, have dominion.

And the second

The 7 Stages of Progress came from somewhere far plainer: watching the simplest process of human life. Every day a man wakes up, sits up, stands up, walks, runs, and eventually reaches a place where he can lift and soar. What looked like an ordinary sequence of physical movements became a spiritual picture of progress — on the principle of Romans 1:20, that the invisible things of God are understood by the things that are made.

Both books were taught before they were printed. The staff of FlagUpJesus Global Ministry reviewed and edited them, and he credits Rev. Timothy Adeyeye for prayers, guidance and support through the writing.

The singing

He writes and records as well as preaches. His debut single, King Jesus, carries the message that Jesus has gone ahead to make every mountain plain — the same note that runs through both books.

Family

He is married to Engr. Uju Caleb, and they are blessed with two children. He thanks her in both books for the encouragement, the love, and for creating the space he needed to finish them.

What he believes about teaching

  • Teaching should be preached and questioned before it is printed.
  • Good news that ignores an empty stomach is only half the message.
  • A book a small group cannot work through has not finished its job.
  • Grace is not a slogan; it has dimensions, and they can be taught.
